Livigno is excluded from the government and CEE duties and its territory is out of duty obligations.
When goods bought in Switzerland and Livigno are introduced into government territory they have to be declared at customs.
If goods do not overpass the values/quantities imposed, and are not commercial goods, just for proper use, or if they are gifts and bought occasionally, they will be duty free (you do not pay duties for them).

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GOODS THAT ARE NOT DUTY FREE?
The Goods bought in Livigno or in Swiss that are not duty free must be immediately declared to the Financial Officers or to the Agency of Duties at the frontier ( for the province of Sondrio the customs are at Piattamala Tirano ( frontier between Swiss and Livingo Forcola pass) Foscagno pass customs (Livigno), the customs of Villa di Chiavenna (Swiss and Livigno Maloia pass).
The duty is about 25% of the value of bought goods (duty + VAT).
The duty is higher for alcoholic and meat and bresaola, dried meat.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE GOODS ARE NOT DECLARED TO THE CUSTOM OFFICIERS?
Il
The unique text of the Laws regarding duty from D.P.R. n.43 of 1973 ratify that smuggling the values till 4000 imply ADMINISTRATIVE SANCTION and SEIZURE and CONFISCATION OF GOOODS (which becomes the government propriety).
For the evasion of the higher values, the fine is two or ten times of the values of evaded rights and SEIZURE and CONFISCATION OF THE UNDECLARED GOODS will be open in a penalty procedure, in Procura della Repubblica di Sondrio.
Thanks to the art. 301 of D.P.R. n. 43 of 1973 the smuggling goods are SEIZED and become the government property.
